October 11 to October 18
October is full of fun ways to get involved and make a difference for HIV and AIDS Service Organizations here in Central Texas! There are an estimated 6,000 people living with HIV and AIDS in Central Texas, and approximately 20 percent of those people don’t know their status.
We aim to heighten awareness of HIV and AIDS in Austin through a week of coordinated events, October 11 to 18.
OctoTea Dance 14
October 11
The week kicks off with the OctoTea Dance, organized by the all-volunteer Octopus Club. Every penny of ticket sales from this fun event goes to the Paul Kirby Emergency Fund, which provides relief to people living with HIV who are having a financial crisis. More on Octo Tea>>
National Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
October 15
The AIDS epidemic is a serious threat to the Hispanic and Latino community. Hispanics and Latinos comprise 15 percent of the US population, but accounted for 17 percent of all new HIV infections occurring in the United States in 2006. Join us in commemorating this day to increase awareness in the Latino community. More info>>
AIDS Walk Austin
October 18
We’ll be celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the Walk with a ceremony at Austin City Hall, followed by the Walk itself. More Walk info>>

Austin Red Week Community Partners
In addition to Austin going red through events, there are many organizations and businesses helping to heighten awareness of HIV and AIDS and its effects on our community and its members. Community Partners include:
- AGLIFF supported us with pre-movie ads
- Arthouse at the Jones Center is going red with lighting
- Austin City Hall is going red at night
- Casa Brasil Coffees is contributing a percentage of their sales to the Walk
- Downtown Austin Alliance got the LED lights over Congress go red
- El Chile Cafa y Cantina downtown is going red with their storefront
- Fino is featuring a Bill Norris cocktail, with proceeds going to ASA
- Garrido’s is supporting us with their great food
- Latin Works and the Capital Tower will be lit red at night
- Mexic-Arte Museum is going red through a banner and lighting
- The Dell Children’s Medical Center will be lit red at night
- The Long Center is lighting their columns red and hosting the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Quilt panel
- The Monarch condos are going red through lighting their building and fountain red
- The Radisson Hotel & Suites Austin – Town Lake is lighting their building red for a week
- The University of Texas at Austin is displaying a panel of the AIDS Quilt, as will other locations
- U.S. Foodservice underwrote commercials for us
- Walgreens stores in Austin and surrounding areas – 49 of them – are going red through store displays and by selling AIDS Walk footprints
- Whole Foods Market’s flagship store is having two 12’ x 12’ panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt in their store’s entryway
