New Sermon Series- How Firm A Foundation: It's Not About The Building

HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION: IT’S NOT ABOUT THE BUILDING
(April 11th – June 13th, 2010; Sermon Series by Sid Hall)

Trinity’s strength is its value-based vision and service-driven mission. It’s never been about the building and it won’t be in the new space. If we do this right, the new building will be a catalyst for planting ourselves more firmly in a value-based vision and casting our net much wider in service. What do we value and to what must we remain committed? These are things that define us and will continue to define us whether at 50th and Evans or 40th and Speedway: Radical inclusive toward and a safe place for LGBTQ people & being a Reconciling Congregation; Coexisting with other faiths and non-faith communities by honoring their traditions as well as our own; Supporting and promoting a spirituality that is Creation Centered, that sees all creatures and things as a part of divinity and divinity infused in them; Blooming where we’re planted in the center-city by being a community center for Hyde Park while continuing to welcome all people in the Austin area; The on-going commitment to Liberation Theology, social justice, repairing the world, & working toward systemic change; Being people whose faith is more about the Journey than arriving at a destination; Continuing to be a congregation who honors its Methodist roots while working to bring about changes in the United Methodist Church that promote our values and theology; and Stepping up our commitment to supporting Trinity’s vision and mission by giving in a way that stretches us as individuals into greater stewardship of our personal lives, walking the talk of our values, & caring for the Earth.
