Dear Trinity Family,
This Sunday is a big day in the life of our congregation. It is commitment Sunday for our More Room At The Table capital campaign, our exciting effort to do significant renovations to the new building at 4001 Speedway in anticipation of moving there in the fall.
You should have received a letter from me with a commitment card this week. Please prayerfully consider what you will give to the capital campaign. We will have extra cards on hand Sunday if you forget to bring yours. We are hoping to raise $250,000 by the end of December and need your help to get there. We’d like to have it committed by the end of June. I am aware that most of you are already pledgers to our regular budget and asking for a special gift above and beyond your yearly pledge is asking a lot. I do not do this lightly. Mary and I have had to use resources that stretch beyond our regular income (for us it is donating stock) in order to make a significant pledge, too. I invite you to simply do what you can. No gift is too little and no gift is too large. So far, we have commitments of just over $100,000, which means we are two fifths of the distance toward our goal.
Another hope is that we will have 100% participation, so that each us will be able to walk into that new space and know that we were part of the unique presence to make it happen. Last week I had a conversation with one of our youth who told me that she planned to commit $50.00 to the More Room At The Table capital campaign. That is a lot of money for a high school student. Now, I knew that $50.00 from her is equivalent to some of us who are adults giving thousands of dollars, and I told her that her contribution is huge and will make a big difference. She said that she just wants to know that when she visits Trinity twenty years from now that she had a part in helping us be there. I pray that we all can commit to such a vision.
We will have one combined service at 10:30 am this Sunday at our current building. Don’t forget to bring a pot luck dish for our first meal together at the new facility at 12:30 pm (2001 Speedway, parking to the west of the church across Speedway) in celebration of our community and in anticipation of a successful More Room At The Table campaign. We will also have garage sale items at the pot luck in our effort to clean out the building.
See you Sunday.
Sid
