How will you spend your Day of Service?

Don’t forget that this Saturday is a nationwide Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. There are many ways to give back, and plenty of organizations are asking for your help. In a lot of these cases, no skills are needed and tools or other supplies are provided. Some of the projects still open and in need of people are: Help Beautify the Austin Nature & Science Center; MLK Blvd. Cleanup; Williamson Creek Cleanup; build a library at the American YouthWorks Child Development Center and more! There are many options, all of which are great ways to remember the man who gave so much for his fellow citizens.  Come together to celebrate the many diverse backgrounds within each Austin community.

From the Hands On Central Texas site:

On Saturday, January 15, United Way Capital Area and Hands on Central Texas invite you to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service.

In January of 2010, more than 700 volunteers came together to complete over 20 community improvement projects throughout Austin. We hope you’ll join us in 2011 to participate in service in honor of Dr. King.

We need your help now more than ever. Please join us and bring friends, family and co-workers. You can change the course of Austin’s future, and it starts with service. Sign up now!

“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” – MLK
