• How you can support fairness and community

Dozens of dangerous bills have been introduced into the current session of the Texas Legislature targeting immigrants, their children and their families. Some legislative proposals would also limit the ability of police, cities and civic organizations to provide basic protection, safety, and assistance for immigrants and their families.

This Civic Academy will be an education-and-action forum in which:

• Leading public interest lobbyists from Texas Impact, MALDEF, the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition and others will share insights from their daily work at the Capitol. What are these proposed anti-immigrant bills and how would they impact our communities and congregations? What are the prospects for successfully opposing these bills? Can Texas resist becoming another Arizona?
• A question and discussion session will help deepen our understanding.
• Participants will learn and discuss ways we and our congregations can join with others to start taking action today and over the next four months to uphold our deepest values of shared community and justice for all.

Light lunch food will be provided in the Congregational Church fellowship hall.  Free parking is available in the Coop parking garage across the street from the Church.
