From Inside Books Project:
A volunteer opportunity that combines your love of books and learning with your desire to make a difference in someone’s life!
Inside Books Project is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that sends free books and educational materials to Texas prisoners. Their letters are processed by volunteers who fill orders from our library of donated books and package the books with a friendly handwritten note. Inmates in turn share information and resources they receive, thus creating informal communities of literacy and learning. We’re also able to help prisoners receive books from their friends and families by forwarding them through our system.
We’re now recruiting a special morning team for seniors and other volunteers who prefer daytime hours. To be put on the update list, please send an email to candide@grandecom.net or sign up for IBP news updates at www.insidebooksproject.org.
Regular walk-in volunteer hours are Thursday and Sunday from 8 to 11:00 pm at Space 12 Community Center, 3121 East 12th in Austin (south side of 12th a half-block west of Airport.) Please call 647-7803 to arrange for a group work session.
