Every year at Christmas, folks decorate Trinity’s Sanctuary with poinsettias in memory or honor of loved ones. These poinsettias are purchased from Down Home Ranch, a working farm and ranch in Elgin. About 40 adults and children live at the Ranch year-round – including 20 with Down syndrome and other disabilities – caring for 340 rolling, forested acres of the Post Oak Savannah in Central Texas. The Ranch community also welcomes 500 people with disabilities to summer and weekend residential camps throughout the year. They are looking for volunteers now to help with planting the poinsettias that we will use in December – see below if interested!
Yes, it’s August, temperatures are in the 100s and . . . it’s time to plant poinsettias!
Poinsettia planting is an annual event at Down Home Ranch, something that many Ranchers, staff and volunteers team together to get done. We plant 12,000 little plants in 6 1/2″ pots and need all the help we can get to do it.
This year we’ll be planting on the following days and dates:
Saturday, August 18th
Saturday, August 25th
We will need about 20-25 people all day, 8AM to 4PM, and lunch is provided if you work at least half of the day. If you, your family (little ones can help too) or group want to enjoy some work and fellowship in the Central Texas heat just get in touch with Denise:denise@downhomeranch.
