AUSTIN, TX: April 8, 2013—-The University of Texas student helping organization Helping Hornz announced today its theater production of the Lion King musical on April
19, 20 and 21st at the Ridgetop Elementary auditorium at 5005 Caswell Avenue. This show is unique because it is designed and will be performed by the students of both the
elementary school and The University of Texas. Ridgetop Elementary is a pilot school for the Any Given Child Arts initiative in the Austin Independent School District.
This show, however, is a joint effort initiated by the Helping Hornz with the Ridgetop community, which includes the administration, staff, teachers, and parents, to advocate
for more art programming in schools. Helping Hornz goal was to create the production in house to show how communities can empower the arts.
Helping Hornz volunteer and director of the play, Shakshi Kshatriya, wanted every student that auditioned to play a part in the play. Out of the 300 students in the school, 80, from grades PK to 5th grade, auditioned for the production and 50 of them committed to be part of the cast. Through the production process, the students have learned and
strengthened some vital skills including dedication, commitment, presentation skills, and confidence. The play is impacting a community of thousands and its reach will only
grow.
Dates of event: Friday & Saturday, April 19 & 20, at 6pm; Sunday, April 21, at noon.
