Collecting for Halloween Goody Bags for Ronald McDonald House

Halloween Goody Bags for Children at Ronald McDonald House in Austin

Many families cope with the loss of a loved one by giving back to those who helped them during their difficult time. Sandra Rios lost her 22 month old granddaughter, Sophie, this summer to Congenital Cytomegaly Virus (CMV). Only 13% of women have heard of CMV, yet more children have disabilities due to this disease than to other well-known infections and syndromes, including Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Spina Bifida, and Pediatric HIV/AIDS. CMV is passed as simply as the common cold.

Sophie was in and out of Dell Children’s Hospital during her short life, and the Ronald McDonald House was a place of sanctuary for her family on those visits. Now Sandra and Sophie’s parents are working to raise awareness of CMV, support the Ronald McDonald House, and to send love and comfort to children at Dell. One of the ways that they are doing this is by creating and donating Halloween goody bags to around 50 children at Austin’s Ronald McDonald House. Starting September 29th, Trinity will begin collecting items for these goody bags – small toys/items, yummy treats, and notes of kindness. Read More
