Trinity’s Cold Weather Shelter Seeks Volunteers

Now that cold weather’s upon us, it’s time to think about our Austin neighbors without a warm, dry place to call home. Every year, from November through early March, Trinity opens its doors on freezing Thursday evenings to 30 homeless men from the ARCH downtown. Volunteers cook and feed the men a hot supper, set up a tv & dvd player with movies, and visit with those men who want to socialize. The Community Hall becomes one big room for sleeping overnight. The next morning, we feed our guests a hot breakfast and allow them time to get ready before a bus picks them and takes them downtown.

Our cold weather shelter is a finely-tuned machine that requires many parts (i.e., volunteers) to run smoothly. We’d love to have you join us in any aspects that appeal to you. You can help with setting up, buying groceries, cooking, washing dishes, visiting with the men, staying overnight, and even doing laundry, after the shelter is over.
