The Rev. Dr. Christine Tāta (her name rhymes with ‘later’) brings to Trinity Church a diverse resume, including congregational leadership for growth and resilience, employee relations coaching for more equitable work environments, and college and adult education and spiritual counseling for learners and seekers of all ages. But all these efforts are driven by a primal religious experience—which she first encountered, not in church, but on stage, as an actress in her first career. She left professional theater behind some time ago, but she remains devoted to the disciplines of the performative word in creating the transcendent moments that nurture the soul. As an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, she has served UCC, Unitarian Universalist, and yoked (ecumenical) congregations in Colorado, California, and Texas.
Rev. Christine has been an itinerant online preacher for progressive congregations across Texas for several years and has recently served as acting Lead Pastor at Friends Church in College Station, now celebrating 25 years as an Open and Affirming Congregation. She believes strongly in the importance of intentional transitional ministry, as she sees clearly that the movement that calls itself the Christian church may itself be poised for the most profound transition it has seen in a thousand years.
Christine is delighted to be joining Trinity in the great work of reflection, reimagining, and renewal.
