On behalf of the Leadership Council, Stephanie Molnar Mowen presents Trinity's Statement of Noncompliance and reports on the movement toward a new and fully inclusive expression of Methodism.
We, the members of Trinity Church of Austin, believe that every LGBTQIA+ person is a child of sacred worth. We will not abide by the Traditional Plan or any plan that restricts the full participation of baptized United Methodists.
Trinity Church of Austin dissents. We resist and we refuse. We will not follow rules that discriminate against God’s beloved queer people. We will not wait for another vote to be taken to determine the full humanity of LGBTQIA+ children of God.
Sid Hall and other local leaders of Methodist churches were interviewed by the Austin-American Statesman after the United Methodist General Conference voted to retain language and policies that are discriminatory toward LGBTQ+ people in its Book of Discipline.
How can I continue on in a church that maintains any semblance of discrimination—as it would if any one of the three “official” plans passes Conference later this month? By Stephanie Molnar Mowen.
